The History of Gated Pipe for Flood Irrigation
Gated pipe is a gravity flow water distribution method using
aluminum or PVC pipe and plastic. Dam Gates which, when opened,
allows water to run down the row crop furrows. The irrigation
flows from the gates, which are regularly spaced an average of 1
meter apart along the pipeline. The gated piping system can save
30% to 45% of the water used energy and extend the cropping land
compared with a conventional ditch irrigation arrangement. The
gated system handles a large volume of water flow up to 85 fpm
with 42" of head.
The Triad Dam GateŽ was invented in 1981 with assistance from
several university professors and irrigation engineering
companies. The main concern was the conservation of water in
very arid climates in the central and western states of the USA.
Historically, these areas used a simple gravity flow irrigation
system that has been available for centuries. The Triad Company
developed an economical and easy to use plastic gate or valve.
The gated pipe system is very popular in the United States
including many Latin American countries for sugar cane, corn,
soybeans, and many other fruits, nuts, and vegetables.
For the USA, the capital costs to install gated pipe is very
inexpensive compared to other irrigation systems. (See Chart)
| GATED PIPE IRRIGATION
(Dam Gates) |
Cost per acre |
$33.00 |
| CENTER PIVOT
IRRIGATION |
Cost per acre |
$361.00 |
| DRIP IRRIGATION |
Cost per acre |
$787.20 |
The operating costs for gated
pipe are less expensive than either of the other two systems.
When a gated pipe system is used with surge valves, this method
is very good for sandy soils. It allows you to fertigate your
crops, it allows for the ease of management of the system and
the investment is minor.
In summary, a gated pipe system allows for water
conservation, better water management, minimizes erosion and
increases crop yields. We have selected stocking distributors
throughout the world that will help you with your Dam Gate
system.
The History of Triad
The original company
Triad was founded in 1961. Since then, Triad has grown to 6
companies. The original company builds equipment used in the
manufacture of doors, stairs, wall panels, and more, for the
construction industry. This highly automated equipment is still
in production.
This foundation created opportunities in other areas including
custom injection molding. Currently there are three companies,
including Triad Fastener, and Denver Plastics are engaged in
custom injection molding. One company located near the Triad
Fastener site is specifically engaged in building new tools, as
well as offering quick turnaround times for repairs and
engineering changes.
While maintaining and growing the original company involved in
the construction industry, TMC also diversified in a
distribution company with a broad range of proprietary products
in the consumer, construction, and agriculture industries.
